Denise Gunderson, a long time resident of Somerset, recently took a leap of faith and energy. After studying for ten years with Master Chunyi Lin, at Spring Forest Qigong in Eden Prairie, Minn., Gunderson decided it was time for her to offer her healing gift to others.
“I was born with this gift and I trained myself to trust it,” said Gunderson. “Ten years ago when I found Qigong it was like I was being welcomed home.”
Last month, she, together with her business manager Michele Heisler opened Healing Waters Qigong Center in the Opera House building in Hudson. She has been offering classes through other venues for years, but now she can offer individual sessions of the holistic therapy of Qigong, incorporating meditation, vibration healing, breathing disciplines and essential oils.
“It is as if the center created itself,” said Gunderson. “The river (St. Croix) is truly home to me. It has its own energy. We named the center after the river.” Within three weeks, Gunderson, found and remodeled the available space and opened the doors. They have a comfortable reception area, a consultation room which features a mural painted by Gunderson’s daughter Laura, who is an art teacher in New Richmond and three session rooms.
“It is a simple and powerful tool,” said Gunderson of the practice of Qigong, an ancient healing art founded in China, thousands of years ago. Energy is what life is all about and the practice of Qigong aids in a positive energy flow throughout the body.
“My goal for people is that they leave the stress behind,” said Gunderson. “By slowing down we can live a longer, healthier life.” The stress of contemporary living leads to blockages of energy and the therapies offered at Healing Waters may assist in removing the blockages so the body’s energy can flow more freely.
“I can assist that person in releasing that energy,” said Gunderson, who admits, it is a hard thing to describe, since energy is not a visible entity.
“It is an alternative modality that is being looked at more and more by western medicine,” said Gunderson.
“Years ago I used to do massage therapy,” said Gunderson. “Healing has always been a part of my life.”
Healing Waters Qigong Center is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, (715) 318-8123 or go to www.healingwatersqigong.com to schedule an appointment.
